Harare-based Zimbabwean Afropop musician Tashie Zim is coming into the limelight with “Wandipengesa,” a love ballad she self-produced and has already gained tremendous streaming momentum around.

The numbers speak for themselves. 73,000+ total plays on Audiomack, 496 likes, 267 playlist adds — all organic traction from a song that dropped on July 6 and never stopped growing without a huge label push. So the audience discovered “Wandipengesa” on its own terms, which is always the most durable sort of streaming growth.

“Wandipengesa” is Shona for “you are confusing me” or “you are making me crazzy” – and the romantic take on that line is what gives the tune its emotional hook. Tashie Zim doesn’t make a big out of the idea. He maintains the prose humorous and pleasant throughout, conveying that particular sense of being fully smitten by somebody for no obvious reason. That energy is universal but it feels particularly organic inside the melodic framework of Zimbabwean Afropop.

The official music video followed a week later on July 13. That rollout time let the music get some auditory momentum first before the visual came around to drive it further. But the video also created a TikTok challenge tag that propagated the record outside music listeners. Thus, “Wandipengesa” moved from a playlist hit to social media content, which is how 2026 songs get the kind of traction his figures suggest.

Because Tashie Zim handled the production himself, the record has a particular united vision from start to end. There’s not a lot of creative ownership there and it shows in how coherent the sound is.
