Puka teams up with Muzo Aka Alphonso on “Forgive Me” and there’s true vulnerability resting underneath a title that doesn’t hide behind anything creative.

Forgive Me, clear and explicit, no metaphor between the listener and the genuine apology being offered. Puka isn’t dressing it up with wordplay when the point is already out there in black and white. And the same plea carries weight when Muzo Aka Alphonso is there.

Instrumentation remains quiet and introspective, with delicate keys bearing much of the weight and percussion sitting back in the mix throughout. Nothing here is hurried to conclusion. Most of the arrangement is space, so the apology may genuinely breathe instead of being rushed.

Throughout, Puka sings with genuine guilt, her voice conveying sincere grief without tipping into something unduly histrionic. Doesn’t over sell the apology, rather allows it come through naturally during the delivery. It is that restraint which gives the sentiment its real weight.

Muzo Aka Alphonso steps in with his own familiar weight, providing depth to the plea without detracting from Puka’s lead. Two voices, one moment of shared regret.

Forgive Me is not about anything more than sincere contrition, and Puka completely embraces that sincerity throughout its run. Muzo Aka Alphonso’s presence merely adds to the weight already there.

If there’s an apology you’ve been needing to say yourself too, sit with “Forgive Me.”
