South African rapper and musician Blxckie dabbles in Nigerian Afropop on “lonely”, a September 2026 collaboration with L.A.X.
The tune follows Blxckie on his appearance on Mzukulu’s “Too Much,” which dropped earlier in September, and pulls L.A.X into his recent run for a meeting between two musicians recognized for gliding fluidly between rap and melody.
Blxckie leans away from straight rap, with major melodic vocals, while L.A.X adds the silky Afropop presence associated with his own discography. Their differences are what make the collaboration what it is without overcrowding the arrangement.
Blxckie has also expanded his influence outside South African hip-hop, with collaborations throughout the continent’s diverse scenes. Partnering with L.A.X further pushes this cross-border strategy, allowing the song to reach fans already familiar with both Afrobeats and melodic rap more easily.
