Coming after “Karashika”, Nigerian artist Ennywhixie keeps the streak alive with “Figure 8”, a lighthearted Afrobeats tune that’s made for a lighter and more dance-facing setting.
The record breaks away from the direction of its predecessor and puts appeal at the center, with Ennywhixie keeping the wording simple, cheeky and easy to follow rather than turning the notion into an overly complex tale.
The arrangement is still close-knit, and the chorus gets to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the song. The initial count of one to eight easily leads into the title, and the brief telephone-style vocal before the returning chorus gives the structure an obvious swing.
The track’s direct hook and lighthearted delivery gives it an accessible aspect that should connect readily with fans already familiar with Ennywhixie’s music, while also showcasing a distinct side to his burgeoning discography.
