South African Maskandi outfit Royal Messengers steps out with a very touching and culturally rooted tune named “Ezibhedlela” off their studio project IFONI KA DALI.

This traditional CD comes at an opportune moment as listeners of indigenous music search for acoustic Zulu folklore that deals with real human pain, healing, and resilience. Royal Messengers has gathered a good reputation across the Maskandi landscape for using realistic instrumentation to examine sensitive emotional realities. On “Ezibhedlela” (hospitals and places of healing), the ensemble addresses fragile health, recovery, and the fear of sick loved ones.

The production here is organic, guided by concertina phrases, complex acoustic guitar fingerpicking, and rolling basslines. Mid-tempo rhythm with resonant Zulu vocals that float with effortless grace and passionate conviction.

The songs are vulnerable and balanced with petitions to the ancestors for quick restoration.
