South African maskandi outfit Royal Messengers drops a culturally rooted, heartwarming piece of work named “Balele oBaba” off their studio project IFONI KA DALI.

This is a traditional album at a time when indigenous music lovers and Maskandi purists are yearning for acoustic Zulu folklore that addresses ancestral reverence, loss, and family heritage with emotional sincerity. Royal Messengers still commands respect in the Maskandi environment for their use of real instrumentation to explore difficult cultural truths. In “Balele o Baba” (talking to dads who are asleep or dead ancestors), the ensemble dwells on the departed patriarchs, the enduring grief, and the quest for ancestral wisdom through life’s challenges.

The production provides an organic backdrop with melodic concertina phrases, complex acoustic guitar fingerpicking, and rolling indigenous basslines. The mid-tempo beat is driven by the resonant Zulu vocals that ooze effortless grace and powerful conviction.
