Obhuti Bendawo kicks off their 2026 project with the gripping Emlanjeni, setting the tone for what’s to follow on Never Loses Power. As the first of six tracks, this song opens up the conceptual and melodic trip that the album builds throughout.
The South African artist’s project-first approach is reflected in how Emlanjeni fits into the broader structure and flow of the album, and cohesiveness throughout the six works is emphasized. This is an intentional ordering that stresses the value of Never Loses Power as a whole, rather than a collection of songs.
The project, released in 2026, has a contemporary feel while remaining true to the artist’s roots. As the opening tune, Emlanjeni greatly influences the listener’s experience and sets the tone for the remainder of the album.
