Afrobeat stretches ‘Gimme Love’ out here and the expanded mix gives the whole thing room the original probably didn’t have.
That’s kind of the goal of a version like this, really. DJs need length to work with and Afroboi definitely built this one out for a booth rather than a radio edit. The premise really is basic as well, desiring love, nothing fancy dressing it up.
Warm, steady bassline rolls and percussion building up gradually instead of asserting itself early. Where a radio cut would rush to the hook, this one takes its sweet time getting there.
When it hits, the vocal hook remains the emotional core, re-expressed enough to lodge itself without becoming tiresome. Everything around it just allows that moment more room to genuinely breathe.
Nothing seemed rushed about any of it, and that patience is essentially the whole appeal of an extended cut like this.
