“Hold You Down” is a collaboration between Nigerian artist FOLA and British-Nigerian vocalist Darkoo on his sophomore album 9, set to a restrained Afrobeats groove.
The team-up adds another collaboration for FOLA, whose songwriting has typically dealt with love and intimate connections. Darkoo adds another vocal element to the track as FOLA continues to evolve the melodic approach that has proven key to his music.
The track is a slow-burning 84 BPM, produced by Cole and SBThaProducer. The recording is also loyal to the calm musical direction with the slow speed of Afrobeats, which is a perfect fit for the R&B-influenced style that FOLA is known for.
But aside from the collaboration, this album marks an important turning point in FOLA’s career. The success of his 2025 debut album, Catharsis, has built a bigger following for his music, and his current effort is another opportunity to exhibit consistency throughout a full body of work.
