The 2022 album Son of a Carpenter has revitalized Nigerian rapper and musician Chizzy Abig with the politically minded song “Over” featuring Dennis Liberty.
The song is against government malpractice and the harsh treatment of the common Nigerian. Chizzy Abig uses his lyrics to question how those in power take what is for the people. Dennis Liberty adds to the collaborative performance and its socially important message.
Anchored on Afrobeats, the track sees the two performers teaming up on an arrangement that runs just under four minutes. The format leaves enough room for the subject to evolve, making the lyrical message a key factor in the listening experience.
Originally dropped in January 2022, the single has recently picked up new buzz on Nigerian Shazam rankings, exposing more listeners to Chizzy Abig’s earlier efforts. The revival is a classic example of how a vintage recording may come to attention years after its debut.
The song is out now on all major digital streaming platforms. Please listen to it and share your thoughts in the comments below.
