Igbo custom and community leadership are celebrated in Chief Michael Udegbi’s modern Highlife recording, “Igwe Ogazi Na Achi,” released in October 2026.
A visually impaired Nigerian artist, renowned for his work on traditional Igbo music, combines cultural praise and indigenous musical elements in a song dedicated to HRH Igwe Chima Felix Achiekwelu, known as Ogazi 1 n’Achi.
Udegbi Records presents “Igwe Ogazi Na Achi” created by Akpamma Studios, in a praise-driven musical presentation in honor of the traditional monarch based in Igbo history. The song celebrates the crucial role of traditional leadership in the community, using its theme as a central focus for the celebration of cultural identity and the respect for established institutions.
Musically, the song pulls from the rich sound of Ogene instrumentation, a hallmark of traditional Igbo music. Philosophical ideas and metaphorical praise poems set against indigenous music give this album a decidedly cultural flavor. The arrangement remains tied to Igbo Highlife roots, but delivers its message in the proven musical manner of Chief Michael Udegbi.
“Igwe Ogazi Na Achi” also brings to the fore the continued relevance of indigenous music as a means of safeguarding traditional values and recognizing community figures. The record adds yet another culturally rooted composition to Udegbi’s library with its traditional instrumentation and homage-focused topic.
