South African Maskandi musician and storyteller INhlenge Zekezi drops a profoundly entrenched, culturally rich studio album titled “IYOLENDA NOM ALISHONA.”
This voluminous work emerges at a time when traditional music fans are searching for real Zulu folklore that mixes acoustic excellence with raw emotional intensity. Throughout the project, INhlenge Zekezi addresses topics such as endurance, reverence for one’s ancestors, perseverance, and standing your ground in the face of life’s unanticipated difficulties.
The sound architect builds an organic mid-tempo backdrop driven by exquisite acoustic guitar fingerpicking, lyrical concertina melodies, and snappy percussive shakers. Underneath the traditional groove, a soft, rolling, indigenous bassline glides, keeping a continuous bounce without cluttering the live arrangement.
INhlenge Zekezi takes hold of the microphone with his rich register and seasoned vocal assurance. Thus, his earnest Zulu voice sets a contemplative and determined mood from the opening drop.
