All projects need a front door, and Cojo Rae opens the Gen Z Highlife CD through one with Intro.
The first few minutes are important, as anyone who has seen a live show knows. The lights change, the crowd hushes, and the host gets to say what type of night it will be. An intro to a record does the same thing, greeting the listener and setting the tone before the actual songs start.
Nigerians will get it; we love a proper entrance. A strong introduction tells people where they are, from the MC who warms up an owambe to the DJ who drops a tag before a set. I can’t tell you what this track is about because I can’t check it, but putting it first suggests an album to be listened to in order, like a night from the first dance to the last.
