In “Ego,” a new collaborative project from Nigerian artists Slowdog, Kolaboy, and fellow entertainer Funny Dawg, indigenous rap is in the limelight.
The release brings together three entertainers with ties to the music scene in southeastern Nigeria. The record is led by his established Igbo rap identity with Slowdog; Kolaboy brings his indigenous rap style, and Funny Dawg rounds up the collaboration.
The song is influenced by musical traditions linked to contemporary Igbo hip-hop, a genre in which local language and street idioms play a prominent role. With three performers involved, there is a possibility to use distinct artistic approaches on the same record.”
Slowdog has been recording and collaborating for years, keeping his name alive in indigenous Nigerian rap. This is also old ground for the reunion as he had worked with Kolaboy before, and Funny Dawg adds another name to the rapper’s fast-growing list of collaborators.
“Ego” is available on all principal digital streaming platforms. Check out the song and let us know what you think in the comments below.
